What is World of Warcraft?

April 9th, 2009

World of WarcraftFor the n00bs among us who don’t already play World of Warcraft, I’ll give a short explanation what the game has to offer. World of Warcraft, often referred to as WoW, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The game was published some four years ago, and since the popularity didn’t cease increasing to reach the current 12 million monthly subscribers. In April 2008, World of Warcraft was estimated to hold 62% of the massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) market.

As with other MMORPGs, players control a character avatar within a game world in third person view. They can explore the landscape, fight monsters, and interact with lots of other players. World of Warcraft requires the player to pay for a subcription, but the game is definitely worth the price.

To create a new character players must choose between the opposing factions of Alliance or Horde. Characters from the opposing factions can perform rudimentary communication and trade, but only members of the same faction can speak, email, group, and share guilds.

As you pass through the game, characters become developed and gain various skills
requiring the player to further define the abilities of that character. Several professions can be learned, such as tailoring, blacksmithing, mining and cookin’.

Much of World of Warcraft play involves “questing”. Quests usually reward the player with experience points, items, and/or in-game money. It is also through quests that much of the game’s story is told, both through the quest text.

lol, another negative editorial about playing games …

April 9th, 2009

This guy has become addicted to the World of Warcraft game (that’s offcourse not a surprise :p) and is tearing the family apart, lol :D Can somebody explain why this is getting described as a fucking illness. It’s completely normal, according to me. Each person has its own hobbies, whether it’s fishing, going drunk every weekend or playing videogames.  An illness, rofl. Get a break :)
